This project involved a commercial solar installation with battery backup for Kangarilla General Store in South Australia. NG Elec designed and installed a system to support the site’s high energy demand, improve backup power capability, and make better use of the available roof space.

Why They Came To Us

Kangarilla General Store contacted NG Elec because they were facing an annual electricity bill of approximately $18,000 and wanted to reduce their reliance on the grid without risking business interruptions during blackouts. Because the store is located in the Adelaide Hills, power outages can affect critical operations. The brief was clear: design a future-ready system that could lower energy costs, support the full building during outages, and make the best use of limited roof space.

The Solution

NG Elec designed a commercial solar and battery system around the store’s energy usage, roof layout, and backup power needs.
The installation included 27.5kW of solar, 96kWh of Sigenergy battery storage, a smart gateway system, Tigo optimisers, and the required commercial electrical and switchboard connections.
Tigo optimisers were used to improve solar performance across the available roof sections, while the Sigenergy battery and smart gateway were integrated to support whole-building backup during blackouts.

NG Elec also carefully planned the shutdown periods and electrical works to minimise disruption to the store’s daily operations.
