Every panel on your roof, at home or at work, depends on one box on the wall: the inverter. NG Elec handles solar inverter replacement across Adelaide for failed, ageing and battery-incompatible units, including on systems we did not install. We test the existing unit before quoting, since some fault codes point to a repair.
Most inverters warn you before they stop altogether. Any of these is a good reason to book a test.
Some of these turn out to be smaller faults. A tripped DC isolator, a failed connector or a monitoring app that has lost its WiFi connection can all look like a dead inverter. Our solar fault-finding and repairs cover those jobs, and a Sungrow unit that has simply dropped off the app often only needs reconnecting the Sungrow inverter to WiFi.
The right replacement depends on what failed, the size of your array, and whether a battery is likely now or later. We handle the whole job, from the first test through to the grid connection paperwork the change needs.

I recently had 18 solar panels and a massive 27 kW battery installed by the team at NG Elec, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. The crew arrived on time and worked tirelessly throughout the full day to get the entire system set up. From the panel layout on the roof to the clean battery installation in the garage, their workmanship was exceptionally neat and professional. What really stood out was the end of the day. They didn't just pack up and rush off; they provided a very smooth, comprehensive professional handover. They walked me through exactly how the system works, how to monitor everything, and left the place absolutely spotless. It is rare to find tradespeople who are this efficient, polite, and dedicated to a quality finish. If you are looking to go solar, I highly recommend NG Elec—they were fantastic!![]()

I first made contact with Dane who was super friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Loved the video rundown of the plan, costs and how they were going to undertake the work. The team led by Nathan was unreal. Great team culture, excellent quality work. The boys love a bbq and are happy to have a chat and explain things too. Highly recommend![]()

Nathan and his team have provided outstanding knowledge, service and support in my Solar journey over the last four years from my initial system through a panel upgrade and finally my battery. Reliable, helpful and honest. They know their products well and can design and install systems properly and with correct compliances. Don’t bother with the Grabbit and Run guys that use retired sportsmen to try and part you from your cash.![]()

Exceptional experience. I have had NG Solar and electrical out to do four different jobs for me over the years and have always been more than happy with the service and pricing. This time I had them out for a switchboard upgrade and some troubleshooting and with their expertise, they worked out that the issue was not within my property but a SAPN issue. Wizards! I cannot recommend them Highly enough.![]()

The crew were pleasant and efficient. Their work was of high quality. This was reflected in the clean up picking up the remains from the cable ties. Great job.
A like-for-like string inverter is usually the simpler choice if you have no plans for a battery. A hybrid inverter makes more sense if a battery is likely in the next few years, because the battery connects straight to it and you avoid replacing the inverter a second time.
What to consider | String inverter | Hybrid inverter |
What it does | Converts solar power from your panels for the home and grid | Converts solar power and manages a battery |
Adding a battery later | Needs a separate battery inverter (AC coupled) | Battery connects directly (DC coupled) |
Backup power | Not on its own | Available on many models with a compatible battery and backup circuit |
Upfront cost | Usually lower | Usually higher |
Best fit | Systems with no battery plans | Homes planning battery storage |
A hybrid replacement is often the first step toward solar battery storage, and we size it to the battery you are most likely to choose. Adding a battery to existing solar usually starts with exactly this decision.
We work with recognised inverter brands and match the model to your panels, roof layout and battery plans.
Before quoting a replacement, we check the age and serial number of your inverter against the manufacturer’s warranty. If the unit is still covered, a warranty claim may cost you far less than a new inverter, and we tell you that up front.
Claims usually go through the original installer or the manufacturer. If the installer is no longer trading, the manufacturer is the next step, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law still apply. A new inverter carries its own manufacturer warranty, which varies by brand and model, and we give you those terms with the quote.
The price depends on the inverter type and size, the brand, whether the replacement is like-for-like or an upsize, and the condition of the existing wiring and isolators. A hybrid or battery can also mean switchboard work, and older boards sometimes need a switchboard upgrade before a battery can connect.
If a battery is part of the change, battery rebates in South Australia may apply. We confirm the scope and price in a free quote after testing your system.
We replace inverters across the Adelaide suburbs and regions we serve, with most work in the eastern and southern suburbs: Unley, Burnside, Mitcham, Marion, Holdfast Bay and Onkaparinga. We also cover the Adelaide Hills, Mount Barker, Victor Harbor and the Fleurieu Peninsula, Monday to Friday.
A failed inverter costs you every sunny day it stays off. NG Elec tests it, tells you whether repair, a warranty claim or replacement makes sense, and fits the inverter that suits your plans for a battery.
String inverters are commonly expected to last around 10 to 15 years, while panels are generally built to run for 25 years or more. That gap is why many Adelaide systems need a new inverter at least once in their life.
Yes. The new inverter has to suit your panel voltages and string layout, not the old brand, so we size the replacement from the panels on your roof.
Usually not. We test each string during the assessment, and if the panels are performing they stay. We tell you if any are damaged.
Yes, through an AC-coupled battery with its own inverter. Choosing a hybrid now usually makes a later battery install simpler, so we ask about your battery plans before quoting.
Yes. NG Elec replaces inverters on systems installed by other companies, and we check whether the manufacturer will deal with a warranty claim directly before you pay for a new unit.
